A New Kitchen for a Historic Home: a look inside

KR+H recently made custom kitchen and bathroom cabinetry for a Cambridge home rich in history. The kitchen's design is by Bill Erickson of Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects whom we have had the pleasure to work with over the years.

Bill wrote about his design of the kitchen for KR+H's blog visitors:

"The new kitchen in this historic Cambridge home replaces a 1970's renovation:

The design of the new kitchen is based on creating a fully contemporary kitchen sympathetic and organically integrated with the style and detailing of the original house, the majority of which is intact."

Located in what was originally a butler's pantry the cabinets are divided horizontally to minimize the galley effect on the allotted space. The kitchen wraps around into a home office project space and the structural beams have been finished in a panel system compatible with the cabinetry to integrate the kitchen, project area and informal dining area into a unified great room." - Bill Erickson, Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects
